Learning outcomes
PLO1. To communicate fluently on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign languages orally and in writing, to use them to organize effective intercultural communication.
PLO9. Characterize dialectal and social varieties of New Greek and English, describe the sociolinguistic situation.
PLO10. To know the norms of the literary language and be able to apply them in practice.
PLO14. To use the New Greek and English languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (official, informal, neutral), to solve communicative problems in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.
PLO15. Carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied English during the first, second and third years of study and have an appropriate level of proficiency. The student should know: basic linguistic terms; principles of language material analysis; peculiarities of semantics and functioning of units of all levels of English; be able to: apply linguistic tools in practice; have elementary skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of linguistic facts; communicate on linguistic topics. It involves comprehensive language teaching: all aspects of the language are taught in parallel with the development of language skills and abilities and communication training.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to further improve the level of English language proficiency and develop the skills and abilities necessary for a future English teacher. Attention is paid to lexical, grammatical and stylistic analysis of the text. Students continue to consolidate and develop the skills of systematizing and generalizing linguistic knowledge from the programs of theoretical courses and elective courses. Considerable attention is paid to the systemic nature of linguistic phenomena, the relationship between vocabulary and grammar, stylistic features of language units, semantic aspects of syntax, and problems of text coherence. The training is based on the main provisions of the communicative approach to learning a foreign language using authentic materials and modeling real-life communication situations. The course is conducted in the form of practical classes and independent work of students. The course ends with an exam at the end of the semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities during the semester:
- exercises performed in the process of independent work,
creative works;
- intermediate control - written tests on four aspects of language competence;
- answers in practical classes
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment:
- The maximum number of points during the semester is 60 points,
- exercises performed in the course of independent work, creative works: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.3, 3, 4 - 20 points
- intermediate control - written tests on four aspects of language competence: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1, 2.3, 4 - 30 points
- answers in practical classes: LO 1.1-4 - 10 points (assessed depending on the completeness of the disclosure);
final assessment in the form of an exam:
- maximum number of points at the exam - 40 points,
- LO 1.1-4 are assessed
- the exam consists of three written tasks: 1) a control dictation; 2) a grammar test; 3) a lexical test; and an oral part: 1) linguistic analysis of the text; 2) theoretical question on grammar; 3) oral topic;
conditions of admission to the final exam:
Students who score less than the critical-calculated minimum of 20 points are not allowed to take the exam.
