PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian and English languages, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Modern Greek language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 17. Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret language and speech facts and use them to solve complex problems and problems in specialized fields of professional activity and / or training.

Full-time form

The program is designed for students who have studied English in secondary school and posses an appropriate level. The student is to know: • basic linguistic terms; • principles of linguistic analysis; • semantics and functioning principles of units on all levels; be capable of: • communicating in English (B1-level) • appling linguistic tools; have basic skills of: • selecting, analysing and interpretating speech units; • communicating on linguistic issues.

The aim of the discipline is to train highly qualified specialists in philology, English language teachers for higher institutions and comprehensive schools along with formation of linguistic and methodological skills and abilities necessary for future foreign language teachers, expansion of students’ worldview, improvement of their theoretical and methodological skills. Attention is paid to lexical, grammatical and stylistic text analysis. Students continue systemizing and generalizing their linguistic background obtained at theoretical and elective courses. Attention is paid to the systemic nature of language phenomena, the interrelationship between grammar and vocabulary, stylistic features of language units, semantic aspects of syntax, problems of text coherence. The basic teaching principle is the communicative approach to learning a foreign language with the use of authentic materials and real communicative situations modeling. The curriculum includes practical classes and students’ independent work of. The final assessment is conducted in the form of exam.

The curriculum includes such activities:  exercises performed as individual work; creative tasks;  midpoint assessment – written tests on four aspects of language competence;  answers in practical classes

Term assessment (2 nd term): • students can get the maximum of 60 points for the term, • exercises performed as individual work; creative tasks: TR 1.1- 1.3, 2.1-2.3, 3, 4 - 20 points (maximum) • midpoint assessment – written tests on four aspects of language competence: TR 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.3, 3, 4 - 30 points • oral answers in practical classes: TR 1.1–4 – 10 points • final assessment in the form of exam • points for exam – 40 points (maximum) • exam consists of three written tasks: 1) dictation; 2) grammar test; 3) test on vocabulary and oral part: 1) linguistic analysis of the text; 2) theoretical question on grammar; 3) oral topic. Students who scored a total of less than the critical minimum (36 points) are not allowed to take the exam.
