Learning outcomes
PLO7. Understand the main problems of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches.
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of a foreign/English language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres.
PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply them in professional activities.
PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them to solve complex problems in specialized areas of professional activity and/or study.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the basic grammatical categories of the Ukrainian language and general linguistic concepts, proficiency in lexical and grammatical sentence analysis.
Course content
The course is aimed at familiarizing students with the basics of normative grammar of the Latin language, forming an understanding of the influence of the Latin language on the development of modern European languages and international scientific terminology, and developing skills in reading, translating and analyzing Latin texts. The course "Latin" is part of the comprehensive compulsory discipline "Professional Languages" and consists of two content parts. The first part contains a brief introduction and information about Latin phonetics, grammatical categories of basic parts of speech, rules of declension of nouns and adjectives of the I-II declensions; peculiarities of conjugation of regular verbs and the verb esse in the inflectional tense; it involves the development of reading and translation skills, and skills of working with a dictionary. The second is devoted to the grammar of nouns of the III-V declensions, adjectives of the III declension, information about numerals, degrees of comparison of adjectives, the perfective tense system; it is aimed at acquiring skills in translating texts and analyzing the syntax of cases.

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of knowledge is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, in particular, the assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.5), which is 40% of the total grade, and the assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.4); (communication 3.1); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1), which is 60% of the total grade.
Assessment of semester work:
1.Oral response: 24 - 40 points.
2. Additions, participation in the discussion: 8 - 16 points.
3. Control work with open answers: 8 - 12 points.
4. Creative task: 8 - 12 points.
5. Final control work: 12 - 20 points.
