Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the course requires basic knowledge of general linguistic terminology and terminological system; knowledge of the basics of modern English grammar; reading, writing, listening and speaking skills at school level.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is the formation of students' English-language communicative competence as a set of knowledge, skills and abilities that provide effective intercultural communication in oral and written forms; the study of patterns and trends of the origin, functioning and development of the English language. English language teaching is based on the basic principles of the communicative approach to learning a foreign language using authentic materials and modelling real communicative situations.

Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out by the ECTS system, which provides a two-level assessment of the mastered material, including assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1), which makes 40% of the total assessment, and assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1 - 2.2); (communication 3.1); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1), which makes 60% of the total score. The final form of assessment in the 1st term is intermediate knowledge control (IKC). The final form of assessment in the 2d term is exam. The final score (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) is the sum of the points for the term work (minimum 36, maximum 60 points) and for the exam (minimum 24, maximum 40 points).
