PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of Swedish literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 16. Know and understand the basic theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The academic discipline “Lexicology of the Swedish language” requires mastery of the Swedish language at the level not lower than B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as well as basic knowledge of lexicology, acquired while studying the academic discipline «Introduction to Linguistics».
Course content
The academic discipline "Lexicology of the Swedish language" includes lectures and practical classes. In lectures, students get acquainted with the main sections of lexicology: word formation, semantics, phraseology, lexicography, issues of the Swedish vocabulary stratification. In practical classes, students complete practical tasks aimed at developing the skills of word-formation analysis, semantic analysis (in particular, the method of component analysis is considered), definition of types of phraseological units, and acquire basic skills of lexicographic work. In studying the academic discipline, students also read and discuss current scientific and popular science texts devoted to the issues of Swedish lexicology.
