Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian and Swedish, English and third Germanic language, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, Swedish English and third Germanic language. PLO 14. Use Swedish, English and third Germanic language in oral and written form, in different genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PLO 20.2. Translate written and oral texts of various styles and genres from Swedish, English and the third Germanic language.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses: Introduction to university studies, Introduction to linguistics, Introduction to translation studies. 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, basic categories of translation studies, principles of written translation; 3. Proficiency in the state language (not lower than C2 level) and English (not lower than B2 level).
Course content
"Practice of Translation from the English Language" is an optional subject of educational program "Swedish philology and translation, English and the third Germanic language" of optional block 2 "Translation from Germanic languages". The purpose of the discipline is to form and develop the key skills of a modern translator for working with written texts of various styles (colloquial, artistic, journalistic, official-business and scientific style), their sub-styles and genres, as well as to prepare students for interpreting activities in the English-Ukrainian language pair. The discipline covers a number of modern problems, teaches lexical-grammatical transformations, annotative and abstract translations, professional interpretive commentary, analysis of original and reproduced texts, their comparison and editing.
