Prerequisites and co-requisites
Interdisciplinary links: Foreign language (Chinese, English), Fundamentals of translation theory, Translation practice. Students must know the Chinese and English languages at a level no lower than advanced, as well as know the theory of translation, be able to practically apply modern translation methods, have basic skills: application of theoretical knowledge of translation theory.
Course content
Communicative and translation practice with a gap (Eastern and Western European languages) is a complex process that is an integral part of the training of specialists under the educational program for future professional activities, and is designed to ensure that students acquire professional translation skills for work as a translator from a foreign language. Communicative and translation practice contributes to the development of professional self-awareness, the culture of communication, the formation of theoretical, practical, and personal-motivational components of professional competence of students. In addition, during its course, students continue to develop translation skills and their own creative translation style. Evaluation languages: Ukrainian, English, Chinese.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Work as a translator from a foreign language: each intern student must translate texts from a foreign language for 3 weeks in the amount of at least 10 pages (for Chinese) and 15 pages (for English), in particular, it is provided that a written translation from a foreign language into their native language and from their native language into a foreign language, students use economic, scientific-technical, socio-political, artistic, journalistic texts . Students write a comment on the entire translation, give the most interesting examples of lexical, grammatical and stylistic techniques (transliteration, transcription, addition, transposition, etc.), also note the main translation difficulties (terminology, proper names, background information, etc.). Translation into Ukrainian is planned, however, in the case of translation into Chinese, the number of pages may be reduced to 8; in case of translation into English, the number of pages may be reduced to 10.
Assessment methods and criteria
Criteria for evaluating communication and translation practice: Individually for Chinese and English: Translation of texts (maximum 30 points); Concluding test documentation, practice diary, participation in the discussion of practice results (maximum 10 points), defence of reporting documentation (maximum 10 points). Evaluation criteria are presented in detail in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
