Learning outcomes
PLO 3. To implement the modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform a successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in a specific philological field.
PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature and folklore to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization).
PLO 12. To adhere to the academic integrity principles.
PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a selected linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which requires updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete/lacking information and contradictory requirements.
PLO 26. To know the strategies of film translation (dubbing and subtitling), to analyze translations and translate feature films.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied English as the first language during ten semesters of study and have an appropriate level of preparation. The student should know: basic translation and linguistic terms; principles of translation analysis and analysis of linguistic material; peculiarities of semantics and functioning of units of all levels of the English and Ukrainian languages; be able to: apply linguistic tools in practice; have basic translation skills; selection, analysis and interpretation of speech facts; translation analysis.
Course content
The discipline aims to form skills and abilities of audiovisual translation from English into Ukrainian and vice versa, in particular, knowledge about the principles of dubbing and subtitling, the features of film translation from the perspective of audiovisual translation traditions of different countries, types of subtitling and dubbing, strategies for creating subtitles, translation for dubbing, etc. Teaching the primary translation strategies and transformations, the demand for collaborative work in the film industry, performing audiovisual translation, and studying scientific literature follows the aim. The training takes place based on the main provisions of the communicative approach to learning a foreign language using authentic materials and real communicative and translation situations modeling. Course is conducted in the form of lectures, practical classes and independent work of students.

Educational activities during the semester:
• tasks performed in the process of independent work;
• interim control - tests;
• answer in practical classes;
projects, portfolio of translations, and presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment:
• the maximum number of points during the semester is 100,
• tasks performed in the process of independent work: LO 1.1–1.3, 2.1–2.3, 3, 4 – 20 points
• intermediate control – written tests on four aspects of language competence: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1, 2.3, 4 – 30 points
• answer in practical classes: LO 1.1–4 – 25 points (estimated depending on the completeness of disclosure);
final assessment in the form of a test:
• translation of the English text of the script – 15 points,
• (1) theoretical question (5 points); (2) oral translation commentary (5 points).
