Learning outcomes
PLO 12. To adhere to the academic integrity principles. PLO 13. To explain the essence of specific linguistic issues and one’s own point of view and its justification to the experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, in particular to individuals who are studying. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites for mastering the academic discipline are: successful mastering of the courses Methodology and Organization of Scientific Research with the Basics of Intellectual Property and the Theory of Translation; knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the translation studies fundamentals, methodology and philosophy of science; features of academic speech in the Ukrainian language; command of the state language and English at the C1 level; mastering the skills of information technologies, necessary for the effective conduct of the modern academic research.
Course content
The discipline aims to form comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the English academic language as well as research design at various stages of academic research from a translation studies perspective. The course shapes and develops the fundamental competencies of a translation professional, essential for professional research activities. The discipline involves mastering systematic knowledge of academic speech in Ukrainian and English, in particular in the comparative and translation studies aspect; develops skills of creation, editing, translation, abstracting, critical reading and analysis of academic texts of various types and genres; mastering the theoretical, methodological and organizational principles of scientific research design in the field of translation studies; considers practical aspects of conducting and implementing translation research at different stages, - from planning to presentation of results to the scientific community.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Planned educational activities in practical classes include, in particular, round tables and discussions, preparation of analytical reports and their presentation, the performance of relevant written tasks based on studied academic texts and practising the skills of designing, creating and presenting academic text. The main teaching techniques are the translation research modelling, partial examination and research methods.
Assessment methods and criteria
During each semester within practical classes, the following activities are evaluated: feedback in class (20 points), participation in scientific discussions (12 points), preparation of analytical reports on relevant topics (12 points), preparation of theses (10 points), and conference presentation ( 10 points). The course provides for the two test papers: based on the first content block (11 points) and the final test paper (25 points). The final control is a credit.
