Learning outcomes
The knowledge of chemical composition and properties of components of the environmental objects. Students have to know the ways of transportation and chemical transformations of the main components, microcomponents and toxicants in the environment, the influence of environmental factors on the rate and level of transformations. Students have to know the basic principles on which the methods of sampling and quantification of components in the environment are based; the ways to eliminate the external influences, features of determining microcomponents on the background of macrocomponents. Sudents have to determine the inorganic and organic compounds using screening methods. Stdents have to carry out a sampling, sample preparation, qalitive and quantitative chemical analysis of environmental samples by modern methods

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should have basic knowledge of general, inorganic, analytical, colloidal, organic chemistry. They should know the theoretical basics of titrimetric, spectroscopic, electrochemical, chromatographic methods of analysis, to have basic skills in chemical laboratory, to know the ways to eliminate effects of interfering substances. They should know methods of statistical methods for data analysis; to have the skills to work with scientific literature, comparative and systematic analysis, extrapolation of the obtained data to solve specific scientific and practical problems.
Course content
As a result of studying the discipline, students gain knowledge of the chemical composition of environmental objects, the behavior of inorganic and organic substances in the environment, the average content of the main components and microcomponents of environmental objects, the maximum permissible concentrations of ecotoxicants, modern methods of sampling, preservation, sample preparation and chemical analysis of samples natural waters, soils and air. The course examines the ways of transportation and chemical transformations of organic and inorganic compounds in the environment, the influence of various environmental factors on the speed and completeness of transformations. Students acquire practical skills in conducting chemical analysis of real environmental objects using classical and modern instrumental methods of analysis, get acquainted with methods of eliminating the interfering influence of extraneous substances, and statistical methods of processing analysis results. Also, students study the main environmental problems of humanity and possible ways to solve them.

Assessment methods and criteria
The semester control includes homework, tests and presentations. The evaluation is based on a 100-point system. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student on the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
