Learning outcomes
The student must master: the basics of the physics of the interaction of photons and high-energy particles with matter, the principles of operation of photon and particle detectors in high-energy astrophysics, physical limitations on the resolution and penetration capacity of telescopes. Classification of radiation detectors used in high-energy astrophysics. The student must logically and consistently formulate the basic physical principles and laws that determine the characteristics of radiation of space objects and the processes occurring in them, based on this - explain the general principles of methods and devices of astrophysical observations.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know the basic laws of mechanics, optics, atomic physics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics,
Have mathematical apparatus – mathematical analysis, differential equations
analytical geometry.
• Be able to apply previous knowledge from courses in optics, atomic physics and
electrodynamics. Evaluate the accuracy of the results of astronomical observations and
the potential capabilities of telescopes and research methods.
• Have skills in solving problems from courses in analytical geometry, mathematical
analysis, optics, electrodynamics. Have skills in working with scientific information – scientific
publications, the Internet.
• The presentation of the material is based on courses in general astronomy, spherical astronomy,
general astrometry, courses in general and theoretical physics.
Course content
The course examines the physical foundations of the construction and functioning of instruments for astrophysical research - telescopes of various spectral ranges, spectral devices, photometers, interferometers, etc. The basics of determining the physical parameters of astrophysical objects and phenomena - dimensions, temperature, velocity, composition - are studied.
