Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) to know the basics of soil science, soil geography, soil genesis and morphology, geography, patterns of distribution and properties of soils in Ukraine and the world;
2) be able to establish relationships between soils and factors of soil formation, analyze landscape components as factors in the formation of the profile structure and properties of soils, primarily morphological, conduct correlation analysis.
Course content
The educational discipline covers a wide range of issues related to the field of soil systematics and classification: from the essence of these concepts, the history of the development of the classification problem in soil science, the principles of building soil classification systems in the world and Ukraine, the analysis of the structure and structure of some modern national and international soil classifications to determination of the classification position of a specific soil in the relevant soil classification.
The discipline consists of two content modules. The first substantive module examines the basic concepts of soil classification (classification, systematics, taxonomy, diagnosis and nomenclature of soils), historical milestones of development and the current state of the classification problem in soil science, systematics and classification of soils in our country, in particular, modern soil classifications and the need to create of the unified classification of soils in Ukraine. The second content module is devoted to the consideration of the principles of construction, structure and diagnosis of some national and international soil classifications. Soil classifications of Ukraine's neighboring countries are analyzed separately. Also, part of the content module is devoted to the consideration of the correlation of soil classifications among themselves, mainly national classifications with the World Reference Soil Database.
