The educational discipline is dedicated to the study of the history of the formation and content of the theoretical and methodological foundations of biogeographic research. Provides knowledge about: the history of the formation and development of the Earth's organic world; the main regularities of the distribution of living organisms, biocenoses, settlements, biogeocenoses on the planet and in the regions. Provides: understanding of ecological prerequisites and factors of distribution of "living matter"; the possibility of assimilating knowledge of the basics of chorology, patterns of distribution, configuration and dynamics of habitats of organisms and biocenoses. Get acquainted with: theoretical and methodological principles of biogeographical analysis of territories; principles and tasks of biogeographical classifications, zoning and zoning; regional flora, fauna, biomass. Provides an opportunity to acquire knowledge about the composition, structure and peculiarities of the organic world of Ukraine.
