Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course "Discourse and Text Analysis" requires knowledge of the Swedish language at a level not lower than B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and is also based on the theoretical knowledge acquired by students during the study of linguistic courses.
Course content
The course "Discourse and Text Analysis" includes lectures and seminars. At the lectures, students get acquainted with the history, main provisions, directions, problems of discourse science, master its terminological apparatus, and also acquire practical skills of discourse analysis and text analysis. The study of the course begins with a brief historical overview of the content of the concept of discourse, its interpretations within various fields and approaches. Discourse analysis as a theory and method is considered. This is followed by a more detailed review of three approaches to discourse analysis: Foucault's discourse theory; theory of Laclau-Mouffe, as well as critical discourse analysis. After that, in seminar classes, students conduct an analysis of their chosen discourse in accordance with the theoretical foundations and methodological principles discussed in the lecture classes, present its results and hold discussions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities: lectures, practical classes, independent work. Teaching methods: explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), research method, preparation and discussion of presentations based on the results of scientific research, scientific discussions, creative and analytical tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: oral survey, test, report, analytical task. Final assessment - credit. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
