            Learning outcomes
        
        
            PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. 
PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. 
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics.
PLO 13. To explain the essence of both specific linguistic issues and one’s point of view and its justification to experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, particularly to individuals who are studying.
PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles.

            Prerequisites and co-requisites
        
        
            The student must successfully master the practical course of the English language and have English at a level not lower than B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL);
The student has to
know:
     • basic linguistic concepts;
     • principles of language material analysis;
     • peculiarities of semantics, structure and functioning of units of all levels in the English language;
be able:
     • apply linguistic tools in practice;
have basic skills
     • selection, analysis and interpretation of speech facts;
     • communication on linguistic topics.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            The course consists of two parts: the first highlights the main concepts, areas of application of the theory of communication and its connection with other disciplines and is devoted to the study of interpersonal communication, and the second part is aimed at familiarizing students with the concepts of the theory of mass communication. The course allows to deepen the knowledge acquired by students in the process of mastering other subjects and enables the acquisition of basic knowledge and professional skills in the relevant fields. Classes are held in the form of lectures, practical classes and independent work, the purpose of which is to orient students and provide them with additional materials for preparing for practical classes. The course ends with an exam.

            Planned learning activities and teaching methods
        
        
            Learning activities: lectures, practical classes, independent work. Teaching methods: communicative method, heuristic method, educational discussion, conversation, role-playing games, written exercises, analysis of texts, audio and video recordings.
        
    
            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            Current assessment: presentation, participation test, control of understanding of the listened audio recordings, writing tasks. Final assessment - credit. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
