Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course "Sociolinguistics" requires knowledge of the Swedish language at a level not lower than B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and is based on the language knowledge of students acquired during the study of theoretical linguistic courses.
Course content
The course "Sociolinguistics" includes lectures and seminars. The lectures deal with issues of language variability, the relationship between language and society, language variability and group identity, language policy, language planning, and multilingualism. At seminar classes, students learn to apply the acquired knowledge to conduct their own research.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities: lectures, seminars, independent work. Teaching methods: explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), research method, preparation and discussion of presentations based on the results of scientific research, scientific discussions, analytical tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: test, presentation (report), analytical task. Final evaluation - credit. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
