1. To know the basic rules of the modern Ukrainian literary language. 2. To be able to produce a coherent text, in particular, journalistic. 3. To have a Ukrainian literary language lexicon sufficient for professional and everyday communication.

The purpose of the course is to deepen students' knowledge of the rules of the modern Ukrainian literary language; to develop the skills and abilities of media text editing based on techniques and methods proven by practice; to teach students to identify error-prone zones in media texts; to enrich future specialists with information about linguistic features of texts of various functional styles. It is a compulsory course which is taught in the 5th semester of the 3rd year of the bachelor's degree; it teaches students to edit media texts using the basic techniques and methods of editing taking into account communicative guidelines, the purpose and tasks of the edited text, its functional, stylistic, and genre specifics, spelling features, target audience, author's style, etc. It studies the mechanisms, techniques and methods of editing, aimed at identifying and eliminating errors, at the general improvement of the text in accordance with the rules of the modern Ukrainian literary language and established laws and rules for the construction of journalistic texts. In the course of study, students familiarise with the main varieties, techniques and methods of editing, types of linguistic and communicative errors, ways of diagnosing and correcting them in the text depending on its structural and communicative characteristics, with functional, stylistic and orthographic features of media texts.

Lecture, practical class, independent work

The course is taught in one semester and is divided into 2 content modules. Each content module includes lectures, practical classes and independent work of students, which are completed by rating knowledge assessment. Content module 1 includes topics 1–3 (practical 1–11), content module 2 includes topics 4–7 (practical 12–19). Assessment of students' knowledge is carried out in two forms: semester assessment (practical classes, independent work, modular works) and final assessment (credit).
