Prerequisites and co-requisites
Effective mastery of the discipline requires knowledge of common linguistic terminology and terminosystem, fundamentals of modern English Grammar; a student should be able to read, write speak; perceive the current speech according to the level of the first academic year programme.
Course content
The aim of the subject is to develop students’ English language communicative competence as set of knowledge, skills and abilities to provide effective cross-cultural communication in oral and written forms; studying the conformity of the English language origin, development and functioning. The English language teaching is based on the communicative method using authentic sources, modeling real communicative situations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During the semester planned learning activities include the oral answers, final tests, writing essays and compositions. Teaching methods comprise practical classes trainings and self-study.
Assessment methods and criteria
Forms of the 3d semester summary control include such components as: • an answer during the practical classes max4/min2 (10 practical classes), summary practical classes answers max40/min20; • a written task max2/min1 (8 written tasks), summary written tasks max16/min8; • presentation max2/min1 (8 presentations), summary presentations max16/min8; • individual reading max4/min3 (2 stages), summary individual reading max8/min6; • final test max10/min9 (2 final tests), summary final tests max20/min18. The summary 3d semester control is a credit, max100/min60. The scale of mark correspondence is the following: 60-100 – passed, 1-59 – fail.
