Learning outcomes
1. To apply a wide range of concepts, theories, and methods of regional geography to solve professional problems of interdisciplinary nature for analyzing the diversity of sociopolitical, socio-ecological, economic, socio-cultural relations in countries and regions of the world accounting for a particular historical or modern context. (PLO4) 2. To understand and to apply in professional activities knowledge of the principles of functioning and patterns of development of government and public policy, political institutions and processes, political behavior, political culture and ideology, world politics and politics of individual countries and regions. (PLO9) 3. Comprehensively understand the features of the implementation of power in different political systems, their socio-economic, historical, and socio-cultural context of functioning and interaction. (PLO10)

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1). Understanding major theoretical concepts in political geography at the bachelor’s programme level; 2). Basic knowledge of the courses on geography of world economy, geography of religions, economic and social geography; 3). Understanding basic principles of critical analysis in geography.
Course content
The course «Spatial Dimension of Power in the Global World» aims at developing a comprehensive perspective on alternative to state-centric concepts of the political world. The course analyses the role and spatial dimension of such forms of power as multinational companies and their potential to influence economies, mobilizing force of religions and political ideologies, power dimension of scientific knowledge as a means of political control, socioemotional and mental dimensions to political behavior at various geographic levels. The course is taught in English.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, self-study
Assessment methods and criteria
At seminars, students can score up to 60% of the total course points. Seminar evaluation considers quality of seminar presentations as well as communication skills and ability to work with the original sources. Each student has to make at least three presentations throughout the term. To be admitted for examination, students have to score at least 60% of the throughoutthe-term points, which equals 36 points of the 100-point scale). Final evaluation takes place in the form of the written examination at the end of the term. The maximum score at the examination is 40 points.
