Learning outcomes
PLO 3. Apply modern methodologies and technologies, including information technologies, for successful and effective professional activity and quality assurance of research in the field of Japanese philology. PLO 6. Apply knowledge of expressive, emotional, logical means of language and speech technique to achieve the planned pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 7. Analyze, compare and classify different directions and schools in linguistics. PLO 8. Evaluate historical achievements and the latest achievements of literary studies. PLO 9. Characterize the theoretical foundations (concepts). PLO 10. Collect and systematize linguistic, literary facts, interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres in the field of Japanese philology. PLO 13. Accessibly and reasonably explain the essence of specific philological issues, their own point of view on them and its justification to both specialists and the general public, including students.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Possession of elementary skills of analytical, search and research work; 2) fluency in the State and Japanese languages; 3) successful mastering of disciplines EC.01 "Methodology and organization of scientific research with the basics of intellectual property", EC.06 "Japanese language for professional communication" and EC.07 "Modern Japanese literature" in the ESP "Oriental рhilology, Western European language and translation: Japanese language and literature".
Course content
The compulsory discipline "Methodology of scientific research in Japanese language and literature" is taught in the fourth semester and consists of 2 credits, 60 hours (10 hours of lectures, 12 hours of seminars, and 38 hours of self-study). Final control form – pass-fail test. The course is designed to familiarize with the specifics and methodology of modern linguistic and literary research in the field of Japanese studies to develop skills necessary for writing and publicly defending a thesis before the professional community. The topics considered within the course are intended to contribute to the students' awareness of the methodological and organizational framework for research activities and their further self-realization in this area.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final evaluation is carried out in the form of a test: the maximum number of points on the test is 20 points; the minimum number of points that are added to the semester points is 12 points (60% of the maximum number of points allocated for the test). Students who have scored a total of less points than the critical minimum of 40 points are not allowed to take the test. There are 2 types of tasks for the test: 1) a theoretical question on the methodology of scientific research in the field of Japanese studies, which is evaluated with a maximum of 10 points; 2) 5 practical questions, the correct answer to each of which is estimated at 2 points and the maximum score is 10 points.
