Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Hindi language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Hindi language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10. To know the norms of the literary Hindi and English languages and be able to apply them in practical activities. PLO 11. To know the principles, technologies and methods of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the national and foreign (Hindi and English) languages. PLO 14. To use Hindi and English in oral and written form, in various genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral) to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines “Oriental language: basic level”, “Oriental language: intermediate level”, “Basics of Translation Practice”, “Basics of Translation Theory”; knowledge of phonetics, vocabulary and grammar of the modern Hindi language obtained from the practical course of Hindi as well as linguistic terminology from the course “Basics of Linguistics”.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the peculiarities of speech in various spheres of functioning of the Hindi language (in everyday, official, scientific, journalistic and literary spheres); with the variety of linguistic and stylistic means of the Hindi language for the full and effective transmission of information in accordance with the purpose and conditions of communication, as well as with the specifics of translating texts of various functional styles. The discipline belongs to the block of disciplines of the student's free choice and has a theoretical direction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of students involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, and tasks of translating text of various styles.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on: oral responses, reports and presentations / precis – 24/40 points, modular control works – 12/20 points. Summarizing evaluation in the form of exam is max. 40 / min. 24 points (60% of minimum required quantity); the exam is conducted in written and oral forms, and proposes: 1) to answer two theoretical questions; 2) to complete a practical task. Students, who totally scored less than 36 points during the semester, may not participate in the exam.
