PLO 8. To evaluate historical and contemporary achievements within literary studies. PLO 10. To collect and systematise linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres (depending on the specialisation elected). PLO 11. To carry out the scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, to interpret and structure it according to the relevant methodological principles, to generalise information on the basis of independently processed data. PLO 15. To choose the best research approaches and methods for the analysis of specific linguistic or literary material. PLO 17. To plan, organise, carry out and present research results and / or innovative achievements in the field of the Arabic philology.

Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the best examples of modern prose and poetic works of modern Arabic literature, to give an idea of the development of the modern literary process of the Arab countries in all its diversity, its peculiarities and characteristic features, the development of literary and critical thought in the Arab countries at the current stage, to outline the place of modern Arabic literature in the system of world literature. The discipline highlights the history of the development of Arabic literature from the Maghreb to the Persian Gulf, starting from the second half of the 20th century and up to the present day, literary currents and directions, the system of forms and genres in the literature of this period. The discipline is multi-semester and is a part of the research component of the educational program.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures, seminar classes and self-study work of students, which involves preparation for oral responses, participation in discussions during classes and seminars, fulfillment of written tasks, tests, research works and presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
