Learning outcomes
1.1 The role of the sampling, features and scope of different types of samples.
1.2 Basic concepts of the sampling.
2.1 Take into account the sampling error in the analysis and evaluate the representativeness of the sample.
2.2 Plan complex multistage probabilistic samples of empirical sociological research.
2.3 Evaluate the design effect of complex multistage probabilistic samples.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The study aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to understand the meaning of statistics, interpret the results of sample social research, and design samples for various types of research as an important stage of research planning in general and data collection in particular. Methods of constructing complex multistage probabilistic samples, practical approaches to estimating the design effect of such samples and the impact of the design effect on the interpretation of the results of analysis of sample research data are also in focus.
Course content
1. History of the sampling. Basic concepts.
2. Non-probability sampling.
3. Simple (single-stage) random sampling.
4. Statistical evaluation. Sampling error and confidence intervals.
5. Stratified sample / sampling.
6. Cluster sample / sampling. Design effect of cluster sampling.
7. Design sample for the national survey.
8. Weighing the sample.
9. The impact of modern information technology on sample research: an overview of opportunities.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. Test 1 on topics 1-4, PH1.1, PH1.2, PH2.1 - 12 points / 20 points.
2. Test 2 (written work) on topics 5-7, PH2.1, PH2.2, PH2.3 - 18 points / 30 points.
3. Performance at the practical training on topics 1-9, PH1.1, PH1.2, PH2.1, PH2.2, PH2.3 - 30 points / 50 points.
Final evaluation - test.
