Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: - Basic methods of data collection in sociology, labor and labor market theories, key concepts of socio-structural analysis. Be able to: - Information search, presentation of social information; - compare and generalize of research results. Skills in: Individual and team work, public discussion, critical analysis of the scientific literature
Course content
1. Human capital: conceptualization and operationalization. 2. Resource features of human capital and factors of its generating. Human capital as an adaptive resource (Nelson-Phelps approach). 3. Human capital investments. Benefit estimation of investments. 4. Socio-structural restrictions for human capital investments (institutional barriers, stratification, type of economy, global economic conjuncture, normative pressure). 5. Human capital, economic growth and productivity. International comparative researches of human capital. Contradictory historical trends in human capital development and growth. 6. Human capital at the micro-level of social relations (family, school, firm). Research cases in human capital estimation. 7. Technologies of human capital management as a part of welfare policy. 8. Effective accumulation of human capital at the national level. 9. Quality of human capital. 10. Human capital effects in labor relations at the micro level: rate of return.
