Learning outcomes
The student must know the basic concepts and methods of the physics of magnetism, as well as be able to apply the basic concepts and methods of the physics of magnetism to solve physical problems that are relevant in science and modern technology.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before studying the discipline "Physics of Magnetism" it is necessary to prepare a bachelor's degree in applied physics.
Course content
1. "Fundamentals of Magnetism". Magnetic interactions, magnetic properties of metals, exchange interaction, relativistic interactions in magnets, equations of motion of magnetic moment, spin waves in ferromagnets, domain structure of ferromagnets.
2. "Modern magnetism". Observation of magnetic structures, observation of magnetic structures (methods with time separation). Magnetic solitons: one-dimensional solitons, two-dimensional and three-dimensional magnetic solitons. Nanomagnets and nanomagnetism. Vortices in nanomagnets. Spin-dependent dynamic phenomena in ferromagnets. Curvilinear magnetism.

Assessment methods and criteria
2 written modular tests (MTs) on the material of lectures. MT is credited if students scored at least 18 points for this module. A maximum of 30 points is awarded for each MT. According to the results of the semester assessment, a student can receive up to 60 points. Conditions for admission to the exam: the student must have passed all MTs and score at least 36 points during the semester.
Final assessment is credit (written and oral). The test consists of 2 questions, each question is evaluated by 20 points. In total, you can get 40 points(max). The condition for achieving a positive grade for the discipline is to obtain at least 60 points, the grade for the test cannot be less than 24 points.
Conditions of admission to the final test: students receive total of not less than the critical-calculated minimum of 36 points. Students who scored a total of less than the critical minimum of 36 points must write an additional test for the required threshold for admission.
