Learning outcomes
PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 14. Use English in oral and written form, in different genre and style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PLO 17. Collect, analyse, systematize and interpret language and speech facts and use them to solve complex problems and tasks in specialized fields of professional activity and / or training.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses: Introduction to Linguistics, Lexicology and Phraseology, Comparative Lexicology and Grammar, Practical English Language Course; 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, grammar, lexicology of the modern English language; 3. Mastery of the methodology of lexical and grammatical analysis; the principles of collecting, accumulating, processing and searching for information; 4. The ability to summarize the text, work with dictionaries.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the basic concepts of linguistic examination of a political text, to provide the necessary knowledge for conducting this type of examination, as well as to form the skills of drawing up an expert opinion. The educational discipline "Linguistic examination of an English-language political text" is included in the disciplines of the selective block "Political Linguistics" OP "Ukrainian and English languages: translation and editing". The course is aimed at understanding the specifics of linguistic analysis of political texts. Special attention is devoted to the study of linguistic, speech, linguo-historical, linguistic-cultural and linguistic-cognitive features of English-language political texts. Students work with different genres of English texts of political discourse.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The program of the discipline "Linguistic examination of an English-language political text" includes lectures, practical classes and independent work. The program includes a problematic presentation of theoretical material (lectures with discussion elements, independent research work); students' skills of professional analysis and research work are formed when performing individual tasks (independent work with theoretical sources and speech material, performance of a creative task, final test and exam).
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester grade (maximum – 60, minimum – 36) is formed by the points received by the student for the following types of work: 1. Oral answer in practical classes: 27/18 points. 2. Addition of 18/9 points in practical classes. 3. Participation in discussions and discussions: 5/3 points. 2. Final test 10/6 points (5/3 points for test tasks + 5/3 points for written task (text analysis)). The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: 40/24 points. The student receives the maximum points (100) if he has a full grasp of the theoretical material, demonstrates the ability to comprehensively analyze a political text, demonstrates independence in educational and research work; minimum points (60) - if the student does not fully master the theoretical material, gives an incomplete description of the analyzed texts, does not show independence in educational and research work.
