have the skills of operations in a chemical laboratory.
Course content
"General Chemistry" is a regulatory discipline for students of the Faculty of Geography,
which includes the theoretical foundations of the laws of chemistry and geochemistry, the structure of the atom and the periodic law and
D. I. Mendeleev's periodic system, types of chemical bonds and their influence on chemical
properties of chemical compounds, main classes of inorganic compounds, redox
processes, patterns of chemical processes, solutions, basic physical and chemical
properties of metallic and non-metallic elements. Special attention is paid
geochemical classification of elements, general laws of migration of chemical elements in
atmosphere and hydrosphere. Having mastered the course, the student should know:
- basic laws of chemistry;
- basic laws of geochemistry;
- D. I. Mendeleev's periodic law and the structure of the atom;
- main classes of inorganic compounds;
- types of chemical bond;
- basic regularities of the course of chemical reactions;
- ways of expressing the concentration of solutions;
- electrolytic dissociation, to know the processes that occur during the dissolution of substances
in the water;
- redox processes.
