Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Fluently communicate on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign (English) languages orally and in writing; use them to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as the art of words, the history of the English language and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of the English language; describe the sociolinguist situation. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies, and techniques of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and foreign (English) languages. PLO 14. Use the English language in oral and written form, in various genres and style varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communication problems in everyday, public, educational, professional, and scientific areas of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastery of the discipline "Introduction to Linguistics" in the first semester. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of English grammar and proficiency in English at the "basic user" level.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to deepen students' practical knowledge in phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar of the English language; to get acquainted with the ways of rendering the meanings of lingual units of the source language in the target language on the basis of in-depth knowledge of English in all its aspects; to deepen the linguistic and linguo-cultural erudition of students.

Training Activities Throughout the Semester: answers during practical classes; written knowledge test (phonemic dictation, dictation, dictation translation, etc.); individual creative work (essay, presentation, etc.); quiz (active vocabulary, translation of sentences, interpretation of a topic fragment, etc.); tests within the framework of formative assessment.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: • answers during practical classes: LO 1.1–1.5, 2.1-2.3, 2.5 – 12 points (assessed depending on the completeness of answer); • written knowledge test (phonemic dictation, dictation, dictation translation, etc.): LO 1.1, 2.1, 2.5 - 6 points • individual creative work (essay, presentation, etc.): LO 2.4 - 12 points • quiz (active vocabulary, translation of sentences, interpretation of a topic fragment, etc.): LO 1.4-1.5, LO 2.2 - 6 points • tests within the framework of formative assessment - 24 points Final assessment in the form of an exam is worth 40 points.
