Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it.
PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of Spanish and English, to describe the sociolinguistic situation.
PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice.
PLO 27.1 Have language proficiency in modern variants and registers of the Spanish and English languages.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
- Knowledge of Spanish at a level not lower than B1;
- Know and understand the importance of language subsystems for developing the ability to analyse language units, determine their interaction and characterise linguistic phenomena and processes that determine them.
- Be able to carry out lexical, grammatical and stylistic analysis of the text, interpret the text, comment on texts of different styles, genres and registers.
- Be able to apply the knowledge gained in the course of studying other disciplines.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to provide students with a solid knowledge of the territorial and social variation of the Spanish language and the variability of its use depending on the context, communicative situation, educational level of speakers and their social and geographical background. The study of modern variants and registers of the Spanish language is a necessary element of translation training, given the current requirements for the speciality and the widespread demand for translations of texts originating from different countries of the Spanish-speaking world. The discipline involves the development of skills and abilities to use the Spanish language in various situations of intercultural communication; it is designed to ensure an appropriate level of linguistic and discourse competence as a basis for interlingual and intercultural mediation. It belongs to the elective components of the block "Translation in Intercultural Communication" of the educational and professional programme. The form of final control is an exam. The language of instruction is Spanish.

Assessment methods and criteria
The semester final grade is formed by the points obtained by the student during the semester and the points obtained at the exam, with the maximum distribution carried out according to the following algorithm: 60 points (60%) - semester control and 40 points (40%) - exam. During the semester, the assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control described in clause 7.1 of the program of the discipline: quizes during practical classes (12/8 балів); control of homework and tasks for independent study: (12/8 points); presentations (12/4 points); module test (12/8 points); final test (12/8 points). Exam in a mixed (written and oral) form: - 24/40 points; consists of two questions: theoretical (12/20 points) and practical (12/20 points).
