Prerequisites and co-requisites
In order to master the material on terminology, a student must first master the following disciplines: "Practical Course of Spanish", the comprehensive discipline "Introduction to the Speciality", "Practice of Translation and Interpretation", "Comparative Lexicology of Spanish and Ukrainian", which provide awareness of the components of the language system, the basics of semantics, nomination and motivation of lexical units, peculiarities of professional texts and the specifics of terminology used in them, the ability to translate from Spanish into the native language using reference lexicographical sources, including electronic and Internet sources, as well as non-specialised public sources.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to provide knowledge about the characteristics and properties of terms and terminology systems, types of formal and semantic relations between terms, and to develop the ability to search for translations of terms and their characteristics in specialized sources. The correct approach to translating a term requires understanding of its properties and characteristics, and the ability to extract relevant data from reference and non-specialized sources. Students learn how to search for a precedent translation of a term, as well as techniques of translating neologisms, creating terminology entries based on the analysis of semantic and formal characteristics of terms, systemic relationships between them, assess the priority of sources and, based on this data, propose the best translation. Lectures are delivered in Spanish; classes are conducted in Spanish, with Ukrainian used for translation if necessary. The course ends with a credit.
