Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in national and foreign languages (French and English) orally and in writing, use them to organize effective intercultural communication. PLO 9. Characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the French and English languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10. Know the norms of the literary language and be able to apply them in practical activities. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and methods of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in national and foreign (French and English) languages. PLO 14. Use French and English in oral and written form, in various genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of phonetics, grammar and vocabulary of the French language within the topics of the 1st semester. In particular, students must be able to read the text observing the pronunciation, tempo and linguistic melody close to the pronunciation and tempo of native speakers; to understand the French language of the teacher, other students and native speakers (on a phonorecord) at a normal speaking pace; to express themselves in spoken language in the form of a dialogue and a monologue using the mastered material; to have the skills to spell and write lexical units, grammatically correct sentences and independent expressions in accordance with the proposed language situation; to have basic translation skills.
Course content
This educational program aims at the comprehensive study of phonetics, grammar and vocabulary of the French language; formation of students' French-speaking communicative competence, as well as translation skills and abilities. This normative discipline is taught in the form of practical classes and involves systematic and comprehensive language teaching: all aspects of the language are studied in parallel with the development of students' speaking and translation skills and abilities. The study of the French language is based on the communicative approach to teaching a foreign language using authentic language materials and modeling of real communicative situations. The principle of communicativeness is primary within all types of speech activity – listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical classes, independent study During the semester: - oral answers, short surveys; - written tasks, essays; - tests, control works; - preparation and defense of the presentation. Teaching methods are interactive, analysis and synthesis, multimedia, structural, ludic, creative-heuristic.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum number of points during the semester is 100 points. In particular, semester evaluation by forms of control: - oral answers, short survey – max. 15 points; - written tasks (homework, essays) – max. 5 points; - current control works – max. 15 points; - preparation and defense of the presentation – max. 5 points; - modular control: test + written translation – max. 20 points; Final evaluation – written and oral exam: max. – 40 points.
