Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 4. To assess and analyze critically vital social, individual and professional issues and offer tactics for their resolution in challenging and unpredictable conditions, which require the application of new approaches and forecasting. PLO 6. To use the knowledge of expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 19: To apply in practice the algorithms of translation analysis of the text. PLO 21. To possess pragmatic and intercultural competence in Portuguese and English.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The discipline is based on a cycle of professional and practical training disciplines, particularly Practical Course of the First Foreign Language, Practice of Interpreting and Translation and academic fields in linguistics and translation studies, which were mastered in previous years of study. Students are expected to have at least a B2 level of English; to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in simulated communicative situations.
Course content
The discipline aims to acquaint students with communication strategies in the work of a translator in their broadest sense, that is, to ensure successful communication based on an in-depth knowledge of English in all its aspects and styles with an emphasis on the linguistic and cultural approach to language and translation; to deepen student linguistic and linguistic erudition and develop skills and abilities in academic work. The training is conducted through lectures, practical classes, and the individual work of students. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the academic year.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities throughout the year: conducting lectures; answers at practical classes; participation in discussions; defence of the presentation; control work.
Assessment methods and criteria
A student can earn 60 points for work during the semester. - answers at practical classes: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.4, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.4 - 20 points - participation in discussion: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.4, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.4 - 8 points - defence of the presentation: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.4, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.4 - 12 points - control work: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.4, 3.1, 4.2-4.3- 20 points. The final assessment is conducted as an exam at the end of the second semester. The maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points, and the minimum number of points (positive mark) added to the semester - is 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points allocated for the exam). The exam is conducted in a combined form and includes the following tasks: - written translation of the text (from English into Ukrainian) - max. 20 min. 12 points; - discussion on the topic - max. 20 / min. 12 points.
