Prerequisites and co-requisites
To complete the course requirements, students should be proficient in English at a level not lower than B1+ / B2. Students are required to be able to understand the gist of texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including profession-oriented discussion; to converse with native speakers with fluency and spontaneity that are appropriate for both interlocutors; to express thoughts on a broad range of topics and issues, clearly and in full detail, providing appropriate arguments and counter-arguments.
Course content
Course Description: The course aims to build and further develop students’ communicative competence to enable effective intercultural communication. The course is comprised of six modules. Module One explores the main concepts of intercultural communication, and particularities of corporate and individual culture as displayed in the situations of еру professional and academic communication. In Module Two, students consider culture-specific conventions of oral communication in their speech. Module Three focuses on the design and delivery of a computer presentation as well as skills of written interaction. Module Four develops skills in planning and conducting an international meeting. In Module Five, students learn to use the academic style in intercultural communication, whereas Module Six targets building argumentation skills. The course envisages a pass/fail test in Term V; Terms VI and VII end with examinations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is implemented through the communicative approach to language teaching by using role plays and simulations, collaborative learning, case studies, and project work. In the final semester which finishes with an exam, the major activities that engage students and further assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, project work, a module test, and an essay. For the performance in the listed activities, a student can earn max. 60 and min. 36 points. Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment The term total score is based on the 100-point grading scheme. It is composed of the scores earned during the coursework in the term (maximum 60 points, minimum 36 points) and the scores for the summative assessment – exam (maximum 40 points, minimum 24 points). The formative assessment includes answers at practical sessions (22 points), project work (10 points), a module test paper (20 points), and an essay (8 points). The summative assessment is an integrated written-oral exam, with the exam card consisting of two tasks: 1) a written task (30 points), and 2) an oral task (reading a text and discussing it) (10 points).
