Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites and performance requirements To be eligible for the course, students are required to be aware of a) the theoretical background of the modern Ukrainian language; b) the general theory of language evolution and functioning; c) approaches, methods, techniques, and means of teaching the language. Students are expected to be able to set goals and implement Ukrainian language learning technologies, assess students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities, analyze sources on the problems of learning Ukrainian as a foreign language, and draw up lesson plans. The course prerequisites also emphasize basic skills to apply language teaching techniques, as well as diagnostics of the quality of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Course content
Course Description The discipline aims to build students' competence in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to secondary school students. The course is divided into 2 content modules. Module 1 considers the subject matter, objectives, and major aspects of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language; it also looks at basic principles, methods, and forms of teaching as well as at curricula and textbooks of Ukrainian for the 5th-9th graders (for Hungarian, Polish, Moldavian, Russian, Romanian learners). The module also focuses on teaching various aspects of the language: pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Module 2 focuses on teaching reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The course ends with a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and independent learning. The teaching methodology relies on problem-based learning, project work, and case studies. The formative assessment components include classroom discussion, preparing and presenting projects, writing module tests, and an end-of-course test paper. A student can score a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 60 points for these activities. Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system, a pass/fail assessment score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points) and does not involve any additional assessment events. The end-of-course assessment score is the sum of points earned for the classroom performance (18 points), module tests (40 points), projects (20 points), and an end-of-course test paper (22 points). To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
