Prerequisites and performance requirements Students are expected to possess knowledge of the main stages and characteristics of the socio-political process; to be able to collect and interpret information about the phenomena and phenomena of politics, socio-political processes, and events; to possess elementary skills in research and information management; critical analysis and forecasting political, economic, and cultural events and phenomena.
Course content
Course description The course explores the functioning and development of modern society, politics, and power, human interaction with social and political institutions, and special characteristics of modern Ukrainian society in a comparative context. The course consists of 2 content modules. Module 1 looks at society as a system and examines the social structure and stratification of society. Module 2 focuses on political systems, social practices, and political regimes, as well as on the analysis of social and political conflicts and the ways of their resolution.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are discussion contributions at practical sessions, module tests, and an analytical literature review. A student can score max. 100 and min. 60 points for the performance in these activities, A detailed description of the activities and formative assessment criteria is presented in the course curriculum posted on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system, a pass/fail assessment score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points) and does not involve any additional assessment events. The end-of-course assessment score is the sum of points earned for discussion contributions in classroom performance (70 points), module tests (20 points), and an analytical literature review (10 points). To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
