Successful performance in this course builds on prior knowledge acquired through the disciplines such as ‘History of the Ukrainian language’, ‘Modern Ukrainian Language’, ‘English Language’, ‘Ukrainian literature’, ‘Cultural Studies’ ‘Philosophy’, and ‘Pedagogy’. To successfully master the course, students are supposed to be aware of methods of teaching languages and literature in secondary school, know the basics of pedagogy, and have an overall understanding of the goals, functions, methods, and principles of assessment and evaluation.
Course content
The course aims at building prospective teachers’ professional competence that comprises knowledge, skills, and abilities to use different assessment and testing procedures for students in the disciplines of Ukrainian language and literature in secondary school; to develop the ability to create tests to evaluate lexical and grammatical skills and abilities of English reading, listening, writing, and speaking. The discipline considers assessment and evaluation in the teaching languages and literatures in secondary school, which contributes to fostering the ability to solve problems occurring in the instructional process. The course consists of 1 module that focuses on equipping prospective teachers with the skills of planning testing and assessment procedures in profession-oriented secondary school.
The course ends with a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered in Ukrainian. It combines such forms of delivery as lectures, practical sessions, independent work, and project work. The major activities the students are engaged in and further assessed are classroom discussion, a team/individual project, module (mid-term) test papers, and an end-of-course test. For completing the listed activities, a student can earn a maximum of 100 and a minimum of 60 points. A detailed description of the assessment criteria of the coursework is shown in the course curriculum displayed on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology. The course ends with a pass/fail test.
Assessment methods and criteria
A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system, a pass/fail assessment score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points) and does not involve any additional assessment events. The end-of-course assessment score is the sum of points earned for the classroom performance (20 points), module tests (20 points), project work (40 points), and end-of-course assignment (20 points). To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students must gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60. A detailed description of the assessment criteria of the coursework is presented in the course curriculum made public on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
