Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students are expected to have prior knowledge of the courses such as Ukrainian literature, History of Ukrainian literature, pedagogy, and age and pedagogical psychology. Students are also expected to be aware of the major periods of the development of Ukrainian literature, have a grasp of literary works covered in secondary school; possess basic knowledge of pedagogy and psychology.
Course content
Course description
The course aims at building students’ teaching competence which includes knowledge about and skills in planning, organizing, and implementing teaching Ukrainian literature in basic secondary school. The course examines the literary process as a whole as well as particular works of literature included in the school curriculum. Special attention is focused on the development of literature pedagogy, expertise in psychology and pedagogy, history of Ukrainian literature, literary criticism, literary studies, aesthetics, etc. The discipline is taught in III, and IV semesters with a study load of 5 ECTS credits. The course is comprised of 4 modules. Module 1 explores the basics of teaching Ukrainian literature in secondary school; module 2 looks at the organization of teaching Ukrainian literature; module 3 focuses on the analysis of a literary text; module 3 gives insight into literary criticism. The course ends with an exam.

Classroom activities and teaching techniques
The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, practical sessions, and independent work. The major activities performed by the students include answers at practical sessions, additions/participation in discussions, project work, creative assignments, and module tests. For these activities, a student can score a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 60 points in the 3rd semester; a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points in the 4th semester. Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment
The total score for the course in the final semester is based on the 100-point grading scheme. It is composed of the scores earned during the coursework in the term (maximum 60 points, minimum 36 points) and the scores for the summative assessment – exam (maximum 40 points, minimum 24 points). The formative assessment considers answers at practical sessions(16 points), additions/participation in discussions (16 points), project work (16 points), creative assignments(16 points), and module tests(16 points). The exam format is a written one. It includes open-ended answers to 2 theoretical questions (30 points) and a design of a lesson fragment on a literary text analysis.
