. Programme Learning Outcomes PLO 5. Make use of major professional concepts and appropriate terminology. PLO 13. Know modern philological and pedagogical foundations of teaching Ukrainian language and literature, language norms, the socio-cultural development of the Ukrainian language, the use of language units in a certain context, language discourse of fiction and modernity, leading trends in the development of the literary process in Ukraine. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites and performance requirements Successful performance in the course builds on such courses as “History of Ukrainian literature. Part 1. Introduction to literary studies”, “Oral folk arts” and “History of Ukrainian Literature. Part 2. Ancient Literature”. Students are also expected to know the major artistic-aesthetic and ideological concepts of the first period of the new literature and the main models of artistic thinking in the Ukrainian literature of the late 18th -the 60s of the 19th century; to have basic skills in summarising Ukrainian-language and foreign-language sources; to be able to professionally analyze a literary text; work with literature sources; determine the role and significance of a writer in the literary process; critically evaluate works on literary studies; take into account the European literary context and the diversity of literary perception.
Course content
Course description The course aims to equip students with the knowledge of particularities of the Ukrainian literature of the late 18th – the 60s of the 19th century as a process of the development of the Ukrainian literature and as a means of preservation and development of ethnic self-awareness, national identity, and consolidation of the nation. The subject of the course is the figural, genre-thematic, and stylistic wealth of the new Ukrainian literature in this period. The course consists of one module which focuses on the study of the development of new Ukrainian literature (the end of the 18th – the 60s of the 19th century) and also examines the literary process and writers in the 40s-60s of the 19th century. The course ends with an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course combines such formats of instruction as lectures, practical sessions, and independent work. The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, creative tasks, a progress test, and an end-of-course test paper. For the performance in these activities, a student can score max. 60 and min. 36 points. A detailed description of activities and formative assessment is presented in the course curriculum posted on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. It is made up of the scores for the coursework during a term (max. 60, min. 36 points) and the scores earned during the exam (max. 40, min. 24 points). The formative assessment considers answers at practical sessions (18 points), creative tasks (24 points), a progress test (8 points), and an end-of-course test paper (10 points). The summative assessment is a written exam. The exam card contains two questions: a theoretical question on the history of Ukrainian literature of the first part of the 19th century (50%); a practical assignment (analysis of a literary work) (50%).
