Prerequisites and co-requisites
In order to successfully complete the course, students must first master the following courses: "Practical Course of Oriental Language (Chinese)", "Introduction to Chinese Philology", "Linguistics", "Basics of Linguistics", etc.; to know the linguistic terminology and the basic laws of language development to the extent necessary for the proper processing of theoretical and applied issues within the discipline; to have practical skills of working with lexicographic sources of various types and formats
Course content
The goal of the discipline: an in-depth study of the lexicographic heritage of China in the context of the main areas of research in Chinese linguistics and the understanding of lexicographic trends and perspectives in the context of the intensification of globalization processes and technical progress.Abstract. The course "Lexicographic Tradition of China" includes 2 content modules. The discipline ends with a test. Module 1 is aimed at deepening students' knowledge about the origin and development of the lexicographic tradition in ancient China; significant lexicographic sources "尔雅", "方言", "说文解字", "释名" are analyzed from the point of view of structure, systematization of lexical material, comments, etc. Module 2 is aimed at deepening the knowledge of Chinese phonology and ways of displaying the sound composition of Chinese words-characters in dictionaries. Translation dictionaries and encyclopedic sources are also considered. The discipline ends with a test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course includes the following forms of organization of study: lectures, practical classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classwork (oral answers), search and abstract work (report), project work (presentation) and modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 60 points for performing the prescribed types of work. In detail, the criteria for evaluating the types of works during the semester are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
The overall assessment consists of points received for the work during the semester (maximum – 100 points, minimum – 60 points) and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who scored a total of less than 60 points during the semester must prepare material on the topics for which the debt arose, in the form of essays or writing a test paper, in order to pass the credit. The evaluation criteria are presented in detail in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
