Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully complete the course, students must first know: basic functions and types of communication; functional styles and genres of English speech; basic theories and methods of translation; peculiarities of intercultural communication with representatives of English-speaking cultures; be able to: perceive, select and critically interpret information from English-language sources; decode the speaker's intentions by analyzing the communicative purpose in oral and written speech; analyze English original texts of various genres; create texts in compliance with the norms of the speech genre; perform and present educational projects and work in a project group, etc.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to improve students' socio-cultural, communicative and professional competence and increase the effectiveness of communication in English.Abstract. The course "Communicative Strategies and Translation" contains 2 thematic modules: "Communication: basic aspects, theories and role in society" and "Rhetoric as the science and art of effective persuasive communication", dedicated to familiarizing students with basic theories and models of communication and translation, systematization of knowledge about speech tools and Rhetorical strategies of the English language, formation of students' skills in using these tools in various situations of interpersonal, intercultural and professional communication and in translation. The discipline ends with an intermediate control

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides for the following forms of training organization: practical classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classr work, academic essay, project work, modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 60 points for performing the specified types of work. In detail, the criteria for evaluating the types of works during the semester are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology. The discipline ends with a test.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester evaluation forms the midterm control score. The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of Learning the material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classwork and for unsupervised work based on Learning outcomes: LR 1.1-1.4; LR 2.1-2.4; LR 3.1-3.2; LR 4.1-4.2.
