Learning outcomes
PRN 4. To understand the fundamental principles of human existence, nature, and society. PRN 8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of the Polish language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PRN 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (by specialization: Slavic languages and literatures (including translation), the first is Polish). PRN 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the course "Introduction to the specialty", as well as previous parts of the course History of foreign literature (parts 1-4). 2. Knowledge of basic terms and concepts of literary studies. 3. Mastering the skills of applying the methodologies of the main schools of literary analysis and text interpretation.
Course content
The discipline introduces students to the development of foreign literature of the first half of the 20th century, in particular the English literature of neo-romanticism, English, German, French, and American literature of the era of modernism and its currents. The course reveals the change in worldview and aesthetic foundations of creativity in the literature of modernism, emphasizes cardinal shifts in philosophical and scientific thinking, the form and content of works, visualizes the aspirations of word artists to create a new "artistic language".

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational activities include answering at the seminars, the writing of an essay and passing the final test. The work program of the discipline includes the implementation of lectures and seminars, as well as students' independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment mark for the course is formed by the sum of the marks of the current and final control. When is sum, the forms of the final control make up max 100/ min 60 points. Students who did not manage to score 60 points during the term have to work for the classes and topics they missed by writing independent individual works.
