Learning outcomes
PLO 4. To understand the fundamental principles of human existence, nature, and society.
PLO 8 To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 13 Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (by specialization: Slavic languages and literatures (including translation), the first is Polish).
PLO 15 To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the previous courses of the complex discipline "Foreign Literature" (parts 1-3). Knowledge of the stages of development of the literary process, understanding of the uniqueness of each separate period of the development of foreign literature. The ability to operate with the terminology and conceptual apparatus of literary studies. Possession of basic skills of literary analysis and interpretation of artistic text.
Course content
The subject of the academic discipline includes the patterns of development and artistic features of the literature of the 19th century. The course forms in students an idea of the course of the literary process within the specified period, fitting it into the world, as well as the Ukrainian cultural and artistic context; during the course, students build a system of knowledge on the history of literary development of romanticism, realism, naturalism, symbolism, literary impressionism, aestheticism and "New Drama", learn a complex of concepts related to the history of literature of the specified period (directions, styles, art schools, ideological - artistic concepts, etc.). The goal of the discipline is the theoretical and practical study of the history of Western European literature of the 19th century. and formation of necessary professional competences.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational activities include answering at the seminars, the writing of an essay and passing the final test. The work program of the discipline includes the implementation of lectures and seminars, as well as students' independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment mark for the course is formed by the sum of the marks of the current and final control. When is sum, the forms of the final control make up max 100/ min 60 points.
Students who did not manage to score 60 points during the term have to work for the classes and topics they missed by writing independent individual works.
