Prerequisites and co-requisites
Translation internship is aimed at the forth-year students who have successfully completed the courses of 1-3 years. The following prerequisites are compulsory: 1. Passing the courses of Practical Course of English, Practical Course of Translation and Interpreting (English), Introduction to Translation Studies. 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of written translation of texts (Ukrainian / English) on general topics. 3. Having practical skills of translation analysis of the text and skills of written translation and abstracting of texts on general topics.
Course content
Translation internship is an obligatory part of training on this educational program. The internship’s objectives are developing the students’ skills of written translation of texts on general topics in real-life workplace conditions, broadening their theoretical knowledge in translation studies and facilitating their understanding of the translator’s role in intercultural communication. This internship also polishes the students’ skills and abilities of translation from English into Ukrainian and vice versa, abstracting and annotating the texts on general topics in the two languages; develops the ability to make independent translation decisions in real-life situations; encourages creativity in translation; develops the skills of using modern sources of information in translation and electronic editing programs to proofread the translated texts. During the internship, the students also learn how the translation departments function in different organizations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During the internship the student provides the supervisor with written translations of all texts, pre-translation and post-translation analysis of texts, bilingual (terminological) glossary on the topic of translations. Upon completion of the internship, the student submits the following documents: 1) the feedback about the student’s work from the organization where the internship took place; 2) a report on the types of translation, as well as analysis of texts indicating the specifics and difficulties of translation; 3) written translation of texts; 4) bilingual (terminological) dictionary on the topic of translations.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum students can get for the internship is 100 points. The outcomes of the internship involves assessing the students’ practical skills of written translation (100%), which includes the ability to analyse the text before translating it (20%), skills of abstracting and annotating the texts (20%), and skills of translation of general texts from Ukrainian into English and visa versa (60%).
