            PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 17. Collect, analyse, systematize and interpret language and speech facts and use them to solve complex problems and tasks in specialized fields of professional activity and / or training.

            Prerequisites and co-requisites
        
        
            Have elementary skills of language analysis and interpretation according to basic secondary school program at all levels of language structure – phonetic, morphological, lexical, phraseological, syntactic, stylistic, with the view of language as the most important means of human communication, an indispensable attribute of ethnicity and nation; to deliver the information in proficient Ukrainian literary language.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            The course provides students with the fundamentals of general linguistic knowledge, the basic tenets of the theory of language, and the most important methods and techniques of linguistic research. It is grounded on general scientific principles and linguistic foundations of modern language theory and at the same time takes into account all current relevant sociolinguistic developments which have established in recent years in Ukraine as a democratic state. The course consists of four main units: introduction; external aspect of language learning; the internal aspect of language learning, the comparative aspect of language learning.

            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            Knowledge monitoring is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides a two-level evaluation of the learned material, in particular, the assessment of theoretical knowledge makes up 40% of the total grade, and the practical training makes up 60% of the total grade. An oral answer is assessed in 5 points, for an addition, students can get an additional 2, for a report-analysis of scientific literature a maximum of 6 points is awarded, for a creative task (essay, presentation, review) - up to 11 points, and a test with closed answers is valued at a maximum of 10. All types of works, forms of their control and evaluation criteria are written in detail in the program of the academic discipline.
