Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Arabic language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. To analyze Arabic linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 13. To analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and Arabic fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process of Arab countries and Ukraine. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of Arabic texts of various styles and genres. PLO 19. To have the skills to participate in scientific and applied research in the field of Arabic philology.

Successful mastering of disciplines: "Oriental language: basic level", "Oriental language: intermediate level"; "Oral and Ancient Eastern Literature", "Medieval Eastern Literature".
Course content
The goal of the discipline is the formation of knowledge about the genres and styles of Arabic classical poetry based on the material of original samples of Arabic poetry IX - mid. XII century and their genre and stylistic analysis. The discipline consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to consideration of genre and stylistic features of poetry of the Abbasid period beginning IX-X centuries, the second part acquaints with Arabic-Spanish poetry (late X - mid-XII centuries). The discipline belongs to the block of disciplines of the student's free choice and has a theoretical direction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Students’ self-study involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries, and completion of term paper.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral responses, written assignments, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, term paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
