PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting the study of this discipline, students should complete the training courses of Ukrainian folklore, Theory of folklore, Mythology. Should know folklore genres, basic ritual practices, methods of analysis of folklore material.
Be able to identify genres of folklore, work with various sources of scientific information, process it, generalize and conclusions.
To have basic skills of folklore text analysis; search and processing of folkloristic information.
Course content
Purpose of discipline - to teach students to recognize symbolic systems in a folklore text, to form an idea of the semiotic nature of a folklore text, to teach how to apply modern methods for solving semiotic tasks in folklore studies, to inculcate the skills of semiotic analysis of folklore phenomena
Annotation. This course is designed to form students' understanding of folklore as a polyglot space, where information is transmitted through various channels and code systems, the understanding of which language requires the use of semiotic methods; show the mechanisms of encoding information in folklore and the process of sign formation; to learn to understand the properties of the sign and sign structures that are encoded in the folklore text and to see as an organized message what it expresses and with the help of which elements (signs) it is constructed, which will help decipher the deep meanings of the folklore text.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course includes 2 content parts. The first part is an introduction to the main directions of modern semiotics, the main semiotic terms and concepts, the typology of signs; familiarization with semiotic methods and the rules of their application for the interpretation of folklore phenomena; the main stages of the formation of the myth as a symbolic system and the peculiarities of the organization of information in the ritual. The second is an analysis of the main symbolic systems in folklore and the specifics of message encoding; semiotic status of verbal and non-verbal messages and their doubling in different sign systems; analysis of paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations between signs and synonymous, homonymous sign relations in folklore text.
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for the evaluation of theoretical training (50%); assessment of practical training (40%); assessment of communication (10%). The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of learning the material from all topics of the two content parts (oral answers), performing individual works (presentation, essay) and writing control papers: 36/60.
For students who during the semester did not reach the minimum cut-off grade level (36 points) at the end of the semester, a final semester test is conducted or individual papers are evaluated on course topics. The maximum grade for additional assessment forms cannot exceed 40% of the maximum total points for the semester (24 points).
Final evaluation in the form of an exam: the maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points that are added to the semester ones is 24 points.
