Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of German language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (according to the chosen specialization). PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastery of the course "History of Foreign Literature (Antiquity - 17th century)."
2. Possession of basic knowledge in the history of world and Ukrainian literature.
3. Possession of basic knowledge in literary theory.
4. Understanding of general patterns in the development of literature and culture.
5. Possession of basic skills in the analysis of literary texts.
6. Possession of skills in independent study of scientific and methodological literature.
7. Possession of elementary skills in working with scholarly literature.
Course content
The academic discipline "History of Foreign Literature (18th century - Romanticism/Realism)" is a component of the educational-professional program for Bachelor's level qualification. It is part of the mandatory courses within the educational program "Translation from German and English" and is a part of the 2nd module of the multi-semester discipline "History of Foreign Literature." The discipline is taught in the second semester of the Bachelor's degree program, comprising 60 hours (2 ECTS credits). It includes lectures, seminars, and independent work by students. The form of final semester assessment is an exam. The selected works for study are representative and are examined in the broad context of the progress of world literature and culture, highlighting the national-historical specificity of various Western literatures in the 18th and 19th centuries, with particular emphasis on German literature. The teaching methodology is based on theoretical literary history with elements of literary criticism.
