Course content
The discipline "Biblical studies" highlights the fundamental issues of biblical studies, including the history of the formation of the biblical canon; Bible translations and editions from the earliest to modern times; peculiarities and forms of functioning of the Bible in Judaism and Christianity; The Bible as an object of criticism and interpretation; history of biblical studies; the influence of biblical plots, images, motifs and symbols on world and domestic spiritual culture. The course involves the study, first of all, of the text of the Old Testament itself, with consideration of the historical and socio-cultural context of both the events and phenomena described in the text, and the conditions in which the formation of the Old Testament canon took place. The main text on the basis of which this course is supposed to be studied is the Synodal translation, and as part of independent work it is possible (and recommended) to turn to the Septuagint. The lecture material is mostly focused on theoretical, theoretical-methodological aspects and basic principles of biblical studies as a science and educational discipline, and the questions presented at the seminar classes will deepen and generalize the acquired knowledge on the specified topics.
