Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of Hindi philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Hindi language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of Hindi texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it. PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for solving complex problems in specialized fields of professional activity and/or education.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of Ukrainian and one of the foreign languages in the scope of secondary school preparation.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint future philologists of Eastern languages with the basics of systematic knowledge about historical linguistics as the second component of the basic theory of the chosen specialty; to teach students to apply knowledge of the main regularities revealed in historical linguistics. The discipline is a part of the complex discipline "Introduction to Philology" and has a purely theoretical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of the students involves performance of written assignments, work with dictionaries, Internet, reference literature.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on: oral responses, written works, reports and presentations / precis – 24/40 points, modular control works – 12/20 points. Summarizing evaluation in the form of exam is max. 40 / min. 24 points (60% of minimum required quantity). The exam is conducted in oral and written form and involves students' written answers to the ticket questions and additional oral answers to the program questions (as needed). Students, who totally scored less than 36 points during the semester, may not participate in the exam.
