Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Persian languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 12. To analyze Persian linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it. PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for solving complex problems in specialized fields of professional activity and/or education.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines: “Lingual Country Studies of the Oriental Languages”, “Introduction to Oriental Philology”, “Oral and Ancient Eastern Literature”, “Oriental Language: advanced level”, “Lexicology of the Oriental language”, “Theoretical grammar of the first Oriental language”; knowledge of linguistic terminology and basic laws of language development (from the course "Fundamentals of Linguistics").
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the history of the formation and development of the modern Persian language in view of the general periodization of the history of Iranian languages and the transformation of the grammatical system of the Persian language from ancient times to the modern period; to highlight the lexical-grammatical features of the Old Persian, Middle Persian and New Persian languages on the basis of the texts of the relevant periods.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Students’ self-study involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on: oral responses, reports and presentations / precis – 24/40 points, modular control works – 12/20 points. Summarizing evaluation in the form of exam is max. 40 / min. 24 points (60% of minimum required quantity); the exam is conducted in written and oral forms, and proposes: 1) to answer two theoretical questions; 2) to complete a practical task. Students, who totally scored less than 36 points during the semester, may not participate in the exam.
